Microbiology

Microbiology is study of the biology of microscopic organisms - viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi, slime molds, and protozoa. The methods used to study & manipulate these mostly unicellular organisms differ from those used in other biological tests.

There are various branches of microbiology:

  • Bacteriology: The study of bacteria
  • Mycology: The study of fungi
  • Phycology: The study of photosynthetic eukaryotes
  • Protozoology: The study of protozoa (Single-celled eukaryotes)
